Growing up in the San Francisco Bay Area, John started playing guitar at the age of 10. In 1978 at age 20, his Band won Guitar Center's "Next Big Thing" (Battle Of The Bands) out of the top bands in the San Francisco Bay Area. John attended UCLA and The Dick Grove School Of Music in Studio City, CA (LA) to expand his Education in Music & Performance on Guitar & Receive a Bachelor's Degree in Music Production.
 

Over the years John has worked as a Guitar Instructor, Songwriter, Record Producer, Recording Artist, Studio Recording Engineer and a Session Player in London & Los Angeles. JRW has also Toured as a Performing Rock Guitarist in Pop, Punk, Hard Core, Hard Rock & Heavy Metal Bands all over the USA and the UK. The passing of The Great Eddie Van Halen was very devastating to me. I know many others have great Eddie Van Halen Stories but I only have one. I was working at the 76 gas station at Coldwater Canyon & Ventura Blvd when I was attending the Dick Grove School Of Music. This was from 1981 to 1982 and Eddie and his new bride Valerie use to come in to get gas there. We were instructed not to ask for autographs or gossip with the celebrities but just do our job, which was no problem, as I was a punk rocker at the time and could care less about celebrities. I remember the day like it was yesterday. I was working the graveyard shift and Eddie came in around 2 am. I was beating out some fast raw punk rock rhythm with my little practice amp in the attendant booth and looked up and there was Eddie wanting to pay for some gas. I was really surprised and ask him if he was going to fill up. He responded asking, How long have you played the guitar and if I was in a local band. He truly cared about music and anyone involved in music. Thank You Eddie Van Halen "GUITAR GOD"
